Spring Morning

We had the opportunity to participate in a local fundraiser Quiltanthropy last November, who held a quilt auction to raise funds for the International Rescue Committee and the American Refugee Committee.

We designed a special quilt from the leftover fabric from our Oopsie Daisy quilt and my grandma made it, taking time to hand appliqué these pretty tiny pieces.

We love the blue bird in this quilt. For us, it’s a bluebird of hapiness- and signifies the hope that new beginnings can bring.

Free Pattern- Floral Initials

Twice a month, I have the pleasure of teaching all the 8-11 year old girls in my church and neighborhood. We have faith-promoting lessons, learn new skills, and generally have a lot of fun. It’s great to see the kids out of the church setting and get to know them a little better.

Last week, I decided to teach them how to embroider. I traced their initial and a simple floral design on a small piece of fabric, and lined it with Shape Flex. Shape Flex is awesome because you don’t have to use an embroidery hoop, it hides your threads, & keeps your fabric looking clean & pressed. We use it in all our quilts and embroidery projects.

I just taught them how to do a basic backstitch and let them have at my giant stash of embroidery thread. The hardest part was keeping their needle threaded haha, but considering they’re young girls- they picked it up super quick! I was impressed!

We told them if they finished, we’d help them make them into little pillows. The finished size is 5″ x  7″- also a great size for framing. They’d look cute in a hoop too!

For you, this link will let you download all 26 letters. Use #meagsandme on Instagram if you decide to make one! We love to see your pictures!
