Kansas City Quilt Market 2019

What a whirlwind!

Besides the fact that everything that could go wrong, basically did- we had a GREAT show.   There were a lot of (unnecessary, as it turns out) trips to Office Depot via Lyft. We probably could have bought a car for all the Lyft fees 🤦🏻‍♀️

We taught a quick schoolhouse class about big appliqué and showed off our new fabric line Rosewood that will be released this fall. (& you guys- it’s beautiful & super versatile!)

Also, our social media guru “&” (as she declares herself), is gone until January 31 (not that we’re counting days or anything), and so we have very limited pictures of this whole thing (dang it).

But it was fantastic to meet new shops and catch up with quilt shops we already know and love.

We have a nice line up of patterns coming soon. We will post again when they’re available on our etsy page and with our distributors.

Just a quick look at what we’re working on adding: N1ATbmsDQyusJyCLGsNA0AZE2czMwQSHSIxpmSJPKcQwEZScO%VXRb+dr6v2hfi5IQ

Fa La La- this collection is great for Christmas & throughout multiple seasons.

+ a few more! Stay tuned!

Big thanks to family & friends who helped embroider things for us, watched babies, listened to endless rants and near breakdowns 😂🤦🏻‍♀️- sometimes we can’t help it. Also, big thanks to all the Lyft drivers who let us stop at sonic for much needed Diet Coke and we’re still so sorry it took so long 😅

Quilt Market Recap 2018

Almost 3 months late…. we’ve been (thankfully & happily) so busy!

It was our first time in Portland, and we absolutely adored everything about it, especially the cool, overcast weather- we are missing that lately!

It took us a long time to set up the booth. We always scale out our booth and have a precise plan, but for whatever reason, it just didn’t quite come together and we had to move quilts around so it looked “right”. The biggest change was moving our llama quilt so it was draped over the fantastic wheelbarrow thing we found. This led to us personally showing it off frequently, and watch everyone bust up laughing, because it is the greatest pun we’ve ever come up with:

Justin Bieber would be a fan, I think.

My favorite part about this whole quilt is the llama’s little bird friend. I mean, come ON.
IMG_0392
We’d add a bird to everything. It’s a running joke between the two of us, so now we actively look for places to add random birds.  I like it.

But anyway, we were happy to be close to lots of fun and delicious restaurants, and we had a lot of fun playing in the city-  uber-ing around everywhere, ordering pizza at 2am, and waking up at 5am because I couldn’t sleep and somehow *not* watching the royal wedding (I don’t know how that happened either!), walking to voodoo doughnuts, which we had no idea existed in not the best part of town, but we throughly enjoyed eating 13 ridiculous doughnuts that night. Also, Portland seems like a Pepsi city, so we were missing Diet Coke a tiny bit.

We found the cutest sign company who did a lovely job making our logo come to life and it was definitely one of my favorite parts of our booth this year.

We had a lot of fun designing our quilts to coordinate with each other this year because we are naturally drawn to blues/greens and once we designed the main back wall quilt, everything else came together quickly.

Print
C’est La Vie Retail: $16 (Small) and $36 (Large)

Two sizes available for this beauty! Also, we loved this bird so much we made a small wall hanging too.

Early Bird Retail: $10

The number of new quilts/patterns we did specifically for this booth was incredible (9!), and it’s sort of amazing we pulled it off. Thank you, always and continually, to our quilter who rush quilts everything for us all the time 🙏

Wonderland Digital
Wonderland Retail: $18

Frolic
Frolic Retail: $16

So much floral motif this year- which means everything was juuuust the way we like it😉

This was an old pattern, but we loved it so much we re-made it in new (matching) fabrics.

Spring Morning
Spring Morning Retail: $16
Chirp
Chirp Retail: $12

The best part of every market is connecting with so many amazing people. We love the energy, finding new cool things (these are our new fav find!), and laughing with each other so much that our abs hurt. We are always so overwhelmed by the sheer number of gorgeous booths and talented people.

It takes a village-

to raise a child, and apparently, to get us to market. In one piece.

Insanity.

Maybe so insane because we didn’t decide to go until like mid-march. And because we didn’t have really any new patterns, it wasn’t just quilt market prep- it was like 14 new patterns.

And at that point, why wouldn’t we color coordinate everything.

So we went with a redwork theme, because we ❤️ redwork, which somehow snowballed into red and pink, but mostly because shades of red don’t really exist.

Super grateful for Riley Blake’s basic line. Because while shades of red don’t exist, patterns of red exist, and, as it turns out, matching red is really difficult. So that became the staple for so many things, like this beauty:

Madeline Retail: $12

Which matched perfectly with Gerbera Red by Karen Roti for Clothworks:

Lazy Days Retail: $16

So I’m not entirely sure how we got here, but somehow we decide to embroider and appliqué on actual drapes. Embroider with yarn and a gigantic needle.

FullSizeRender-1

Super fun. Me (“meags”) on the left and my mom (“me”/Kristi) on the right. Multi-hour project. But completely worth it-

IMG_8710

Because it turned out really adorable.

Not without a lot of struggles. I’m not sure why we thought we could set up in 3 hours, that just turned out to be a funny joke. The floor, the drapes, the furniture, even getting the quilts to hang flat and straight, everything had to be redone 100 times because we’re both perfectionists. At least a little bit. Ah.

I feel like maybe the steaming alone took 3 hours. Kristi burned herself and I got some really awesomely timed photos that I’m sure I’m not allowed to post, but here’s one anyway: IMG_8704

My favorite picture of the whole weekend.

This isn’t to say there wasn’t injuries on my part. Saturday morning my daughter had a dance recital so my husband and kids dropped me off at the doors to the salt palace. Except as soon as I got out of the car, I recognized nothing, and walked the wrong direction for what felt like a lifetime. I was walking with Siri telling me directions, which is own special moment, especially because I actually live here, so it’s not like I’ve never been to downtown Salt Lake. And I was wearing really cute, new, and super uncomfortable shoes and my feet broke out in the worst blisters ever. Like holes in my feet. At one point I stopped and put some leaves in them because it was that bad.

And for illustrative purposes, here’s a map of my walk:

Screen Shot 2016-06-02 at 8.19.22 PM copy

Probably like 300 miles.

So I recognized the loading dock, and kept walking back and forth trying to decide which way would be faster to the entrance. The lady finally, after seeing me pass her like 5 times, let me in the back door, which happened to be basically 5 feet from my booth. At that point I was carrying my shoes. As well as more catalogues and my heavy purse that had pretty much everything but bandaids in it. And upon seeing me in my fragile state, my mother says “oh my gosh calm down. What is even happening? Go clean up in the bathroom” I just was so much more sympathetic when she burned herself on the steamer.

My sister took pity on my and gave me a bandaid (her purse was better equipped for my drama) and then went and bought me flip flops, which was super nice.

But anyway, other than that, and once everything was all set up and ready to go, we just had a blast.

Madee, my other sister, declared herself as the “and” of meags & me, and swiftly took over social media. She’s super funny and understands/love instagram. So if you want some more good times, follow us on instagram @meagsandme.

We were grateful to meet a lot of amazing quilt shop owners, put some names to faces, and met other designers and people who we are just ecstatic to collaborate with.

For those of you who’ve been following us since the beginning, we’re excited to announce we’ve changed up our pattern format, and they’re beautiful! We’ve included instructions on how we appliqué, and in our patterns with pieced blocks, we’ve included a helpful “at a glance” page, so you can grab that and see exactly what needs to be cut and how the block comes together. We’re hoping this eliminates flipping through pages, back and forth from the cutting guide and block assembly instructions. Our embroidery patterns are colored, not black and white. At a glance, you can see what thread colors we used and where. And hopefully, with this general, gorgeous, layout, you’ll be able to spot our patterns quickly, and know you’re getting a really great, thoroughly detailed, and absolutely adorable pattern!

IMG_8692

We’re adding all our new patterns to our etsy shop for download immediately, it just takes some time. For now, you can find our new Alice in Wonderland embroideries – and if you ❤️ them, we’ll be adding more soon! So stay tuned!

As always, any questions about anything can be directed to our email: meagsandme@gmail.com. A preview of our current catalogue can be viewed at the “quilt pattern” tab at top. I’ll be posting the full catalogue as soon as I can figure it out. Our wholesale and distributor prices are industry standard.

Loved meeting so many of you at market, and we will see you again next spring!
