I’ve been dying to show you this pattern since the moment it was conceived in my brain. Or my husband’s brain, technically. Sometimes he has good ideas. Sometimes he thinks ketchup belongs on steak.
We met Dodi from at the SLC market this past spring and fell in love with her and her fabric line Enchanted. We were immediately drawn to all the navy, pink, and minty green colors and the perfectly designed quaint floral prints paired seamlessly with the cutest plaid. It’d be stunning in a number of projects and we wanted to design a quilt that really showed it off.
Cue my husband saying “you could put some deer in it”, and then it all came together pretty quickly.
I think it’s pretty adorable.

After meeting Shari from Doohickey Designs at market this past spring, we were so excited she asked us to design a quilt with her absolutely adorable fabric line- Wistful Winds. It’s bright and  versatile, with beautiful floral themes that we knew would be just perfect for applique.
We really wanted to create something that was just as happy as the fabric. The yellow and orange reminded us of my 6 year old’s favorite animal- the giraffe. After trying to figure out how to appliquĂŠ a giant giraffe on a quilt, we came up with this:

I just love everything about this! It was so fun seeing it all come together and I can’t imagine a better fabric for this design.

to raise a child, and apparently, to get us to market. In one piece.
Insanity.
Maybe so insane because we didn’t decide to go until like mid-march. And because we didn’t have really any new patterns, it wasn’t just quilt market prep- it was like 14 new patterns.
And at that point, why wouldn’t we color coordinate everything.
So we went with a redwork theme, because we â¤ď¸ redwork, which somehow snowballed into red and pink, but mostly because shades of red don’t really exist.
Super grateful for Riley Blake’s basic line. Because while shades of red don’t exist, patterns of red exist, and, as it turns out, matching red is really difficult. So that became the staple for so many things, like this beauty:

So I’m not entirely sure how we got here, but somehow we decide to embroider and appliquĂŠ on actual drapes. Embroider with yarn and a gigantic needle.
Super fun. Me (“meags”) on the left and my mom (“me”/Kristi) on the right. Multi-hour project. But completely worth it-
Because it turned out really adorable.
Not without a lot of struggles. I’m not sure why we thought we could set up in 3 hours, that just turned out to be a funny joke. The floor, the drapes, the furniture, even getting the quilts to hang flat and straight, everything had to be redone 100 times because we’re both perfectionists. At least a little bit. Ah.
I feel like maybe the steaming alone took 3 hours. Kristi burned herself and I got some really awesomely timed photos that I’m sure I’m not allowed to post, but here’s one anyway:Â

This isn’t to say there wasn’t injuries on my part. Saturday morning my daughter had a dance recital so my husband and kids dropped me off at the doors to the salt palace. Except as soon as I got out of the car, I recognized nothing, and walked the wrong direction for what felt like a lifetime. I was walking with Siri telling me directions, which is own special moment, especially because I actually live here, so it’s not like I’ve never been to downtown Salt Lake. And I was wearing really cute, new, and super uncomfortable shoes and my feet broke out in the worst blisters ever. Like holes in my feet. At one point I stopped and put some leaves in them because it was that bad.
And for illustrative purposes, here’s a map of my walk:

So I recognized the loading dock, and kept walking back and forth trying to decide which way would be faster to the entrance. The lady finally, after seeing me pass her like 5 times, let me in the back door, which happened to be basically 5 feet from my booth. At that point I was carrying my shoes. As well as more catalogues and my heavy purse that had pretty much everything but bandaids in it. And upon seeing me in my fragile state, my mother says “oh my gosh calm down. What is even happening? Go clean up in the bathroom” I just was so much more sympathetic when she burned herself on the steamer.
My sister took pity on my and gave me a bandaid (her purse was better equipped for my drama) and then went and bought me flip flops, which was super nice.
But anyway, other than that, and once everything was all set up and ready to go, we just had a blast.
Madee, my other sister, declared herself as the “and” of meags & me, and swiftly took over social media. She’s super funny and understands/love instagram. So if you want some more good times, follow us on instagram @meagsandme.
We were grateful to meet a lot of amazing quilt shop owners, put some names to faces, and met other designers and people who we are just ecstatic to collaborate with.
For those of you who’ve been following us since the beginning, we’re excited to announce we’ve changed up our pattern format, and they’re beautiful! We’ve included instructions on how we appliquĂŠ, and in our patterns with pieced blocks, we’ve included a helpful “at a glance” page, so you can grab that and see exactly what needs to be cut and how the block comes together. We’re hoping this eliminates flipping through pages, back and forth from the cutting guide and block assembly instructions. Our embroidery patterns are colored, not black and white. At a glance, you can see what thread colors we used and where. And hopefully, with this general, gorgeous, layout, you’ll be able to spot our patterns quickly, and know you’re getting a really great, thoroughly detailed, and absolutely adorable pattern!
We’re adding all our new patterns to our etsy shop for download immediately, it just takes some time. For now, you can find our new Alice in Wonderland embroideries – and if you â¤ď¸ them, we’ll be adding more soon! So stay tuned!
